Funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Rural Utilities Service (USDA-RUS) is utilized by many municipalities in the County to develop adequate water and waste disposal systems. USDA-RUS makes their funding available on a competitive basis to rural areas and towns with a population less than 10,000. The funds are available in the form of loans and / or grants to public entities such as municipalities, counties, special-purpose districts, Indian tribes, and corporations not operated for profit. Funding through USDA-RUS has been utilized by municipalities throughout Fayette County, including projects also funded through the Community Development Block Grant Program.
